The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigation against 18 hajj agencies over the allegations of involving in anomalies in hajj management, reports UNB.
ACC deputy director Zulfiker Ali was given the assignment to run investigation against the agencies involved in hajj management anomalies, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, deputy director (PR) of the graft body, said.
Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director general of ACC, will supervise the investigation.
Earlier on Tuesday, the parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation and tourism ministry recommended the government to cancel the licenses of the travel agencies involved in anomalies in hajj management this year.
It also suggested the civil aviation and tourism ministry to take necessary steps to fine the hajj agencies if needed.
The committee came up with the recommendations at its 29th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair.
At a press briefing in the secretariat, joint secretary of the religious affairs ministry said, “We have received complaints from 98 deprived pilgrims against 18 agencies. Stern action will be taken against them.”
