Shilpakala pays tribute to Rebel Poet Nazrul

Marking the 41st death anniversary of the Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam--which was observed on Sunday, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) also paid tribute to the legend through elaborated programmes on its premises in the capital.

A cultural event followed by a discussion began at 6:30pm at the auditorium of Music and Dance Centre of BSA on Tuesday evening.

Presided over by BSA secretary and acting director general Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury, writer and researcher Ahmed Rafiq attend edas the main discussant at the event.

After the discussion, artistes of the Banhisikha presented chorus rendition with the songs ‘Medher Dombur Ghono Baje’, ‘Alga Koro Go Khopar Badhon’ and ‘Modhukor Mondir Baje’. Besides, child artistes of BSA and Dhaka Sangskritik Dal rendered songs of Nazrul at the event.

In the solo part, Sharmin Sathi Islam rendered the songs ‘Jare Haat Diya Mala Dite Paro Nai’ and ‘Keno Chandni Raate Megh Ase Kadate’, while Yakub Ali Khan rendered ‘Phuler Jolsay Nirob Keno Kabi’ and ‘Ami Jedin Roibo Na Go’.

Besides, Sujit Mustafa, Khalid Hossain, Shamima Parveen Shimu rendered solo music, while noted Nazrul Sangeet singer Shahin Samad rendered Gazal and Shama Sangeet at the event.

The programme also featured recitation, where artiste Golam Sarwar recited poet’s ‘Protibhason’ and Laila Afroz recited ‘Agradut’.

Born into a Bengali Muslim Kazi family, Kazi Nazrul Islam produced a large body of poetry and music with themes that included religious devotion and spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. His activism for political and social justice earned him the title of the ‘Rebel Poet’.
