Dhaka Test tit-bit

Sports Reporter

Warner’s first in sub-continent

David Warner finally conquered the sub-continent condition, hitting his first century but sadly for him it came in a losing-cause. Warner did his best on the tricky wicket to keep Bangladesh at bay before his dismissal but his colleagues couldn’t show the same grit and aggression that he showed. The century is also his just second in the Asia and overall his 19th century in 65th Test. But it is only the fifth away century for him which he indicated that he didn’t show good performance often away from the home. However the century is also his second in the fourth innings.

Taijul’s 50

Left arm spinner Taijul Islam became the second fastest bowler for Bangladesh to reach 50 wickets landmark. He got the mark in his 14th match. Left arm spin bowler Mohammad Rafique who was the first Bangladeshi bowler to claim 100 wickets in Test cricket, remains the fastest to get the mark as he brought up his 50th wicket in 13 matches. Another left arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan, the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh got to the mark in his 15th Test.

Maxwell’s strategy to kill time

With Bangladesh spinners taking the control of the game, dismissing Steven Smith and David Warner in just 13 runs thanks to Shakib Al Hasan, Australia literally looked scared. The wicket was unpredictable as no one knew when it would keep low when to carry the extra bounce. So the task for the batsmen were tougher. And Australia kept losing the wicket as the lunch break was approached. By the time, Australia seemed to pray for the lunch coming earlier. Glenn Maxwell even took a strategy to kill the time to ensure that they wouldn’t need to face so many deliveries. Therefore he often was seen talking to his partner Nathan Lyon. It was clearly understood that they were killing the times.

Cummins’ lusty blow

With the hopes fading away, Cummins provided Australia with unlikely hopes, hitting the balls around the park. His big hitting brought a pin-drop silence to the stadium and frustrated the Bangladeshi bowlers who clearly didn’t expect such counter-attack. But Bangladesh knew that the injured Josh Hazlewood couldn’t do anything hard and they targeted him. However the hosts were successful in executing the plan to get Hazlewood out finally.  Cummins remained unbeaten on 33 off 55, hitting three fours and two sixes.
