Bangladesh unbeatable in home condition: Mushfiq

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim urged his side not to be engrossed much with the historic victory in the first Test against Australia as they have the task unfinished still.

He said Australia are under pressure after their 20-run defeat in the first Test and so they need to utilise the opportunity to the fullest in a bid to materialise the hope of inflicting a whitewash on the Aussie.

“It is hard to get the Australian team under pressure so we must take the opportunity to win the series,” Mushfiqur said after the match.

Bangladesh’s blueprint of letting the overseas team down preparing a rage turner brought an expected result for them when they beat Australia albeit with some hiccup. However the skipper termed the maiden victory against Australia as historic, considering the perspective that they faced a stiff challenge from them on the fourth day morning.

“It is a huge achievement. Now we can say it is a historic win; a match cannot be historic because we are playing after 11 years,” he pointed out.

“England was a strong team and while Australia don’t have a good recent record in the sub-continent, they have brought almost everyone here. They were ahead of us today but we had some belief since many of their batsmen are not used to playing in these conditions. I think next time we are in these situations, we can handle it better. I think this was a big statement.”

Bangladesh publicly announced to defeat Australia in the series which didn’t go well with even some of the fans of the country. Australian skipper Steven Smith irritated Bangladesh, reminding them their record in the Test cricket but at the end even Smith admitted Bangladesh are almost unbeatable at their home condition.

“This was not public announcement. We said we believe we could win against any team at our own yard,” Mushfiqur said.

“We knew it’s not impossible for us to beat any team in our condition because we know our condition very well. But beating a top side is not easy. We had done lot of hard work in the last four days to ensure that we would win the match. Somebody may think our win against England was a fluke. After beating Australia, I hope everyone will understand that that was not fluke.”
