Abahani back to winning ways

Holders Abahani Limited again returned to winning ways in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football after defeating Arambagh Krira Sangha by 2-1 yesterday.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, all three goals of the match were scored in the first half when the youngsters Nabib Newaz Jibon and Saad Uddin scored one goal each for Abahani and Bokula reduced one for Arambagh Krira Sangha.    

Abahani Limited, who dropped points in the previous match after a goalless draw with Rahmatganj, not looked impressive on the day as, having 2-1 first half lead, could not increase the margin in the full second half.

After dull opening 20 minutes, the game livened up with Nasir Uddin powered direct on target but goalkeeper was very sharp to deny with a good punch on 23rd minute.

 Aramabgh defense looked vulnerable very often and had to pay for it costly with conceding two goals in a quick succession. On 31st minute a corner by Emon Babu from left flank and as the defense fumbled, Jibon closely pushed the ball into near post (1-0).

Abahani, who have seen some young players giving everything for the club kept Arambagh under pressure and took five minutes to double the lead and this time it was a stunning goal with Saad Uddin’s 35 yards long powerful strike found the net (2-0).

Arambagh, who had a good occasion in the first half, utilized it successfully when Bokula converted a penalty in the injury time after the goal-bound forward Mohammed Jewel was brought down by Abahani goalkeeper Sohel inside the area (2-1).
