‘Enforced disappearances’

Khaleda voices concern

UNB

Voicing deep concern over the missing of Kalyan Party secretary general MM Aminur Rahman, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday alleged that the government has turned the country into a valley of murder, enforced disappearance, abduction and secret killing, reports UNB.

In a statement she said, "Kalyan Party general secretary MM Aminur Rahman has also gone into the list of enforced disappearance. Coming out of his party office, he couldn't return to his home. No one knows where the lurking hooligans have taken him away."

She further said, "I strongly believe the usurper government has made Aminur disappeared...they've subjected many BNP leaders and activists to extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance. They're out there to eliminate the opposition to materialise their high ambition to cling to power illegally." Earlier in the day,

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference alleged that Aminur went missing as he came out of his Nayapaltan residence for his local residence in Savar on Sunday night." We're in doubt whether he has been subjected to enforced disappearance."

Khaleda said the inhuman incidents of human rights violation by the government are now widely discussed at home and abroad.

She said the local and international human rights activists are clearly exposing the government's human rights violation activities. "But, the government cares little about these allegations against it."

The BNP chief alleged that the government has got desperate to create a one-party social and political system imposing its misrule. "That's why they're attacking the country's independent institutions."

Mentioning that the government earlier issued death warrant for democracy by snatching people's right to vote and attacking the election system, she said it is now out to ensure the death of democracy.

Khaleda said the entire nation has got seriously concerned over the recent incidents of enforced disappearance. "The incidents of the disappearance are being carried out to hide the embarrassing situation created recently through an obstruction to the government desperate move to exercise excessive power."

She strongly condemned and protested the disappearance of the Kalyan Party secretary general and urged the government to produce him and all other disappeared people before public immediately.

"These incidents of enforced disappearance didn't take place out of the government's knowledge. The government must take steps to return the disappeared people to their families," Khaleda added.
