HC judges inspect lower court activities

Following Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s instruction, 16 High Court judges have inspected the activities of the subordinate courts in 31 districts across the country.

On the condition of anonymity, a high official of the Supreme Court told this correspondent that the HC judges conducted the inspection from August 27 to 29.

During the inspection, the judges looked into the trial proceedings, case documents, mistakes in trial proceedings, the system of conducting the trial proceedings, and the system of verdict delivery by the lower court judges, said the source. He added that after the inspection, the HC judges will submit the report to the chief justice, and action will be taken against the judges according to the recommendations of the HC judges.

On August 22, a notice issued by the HC Division’s registrar Abu Sayed Diljar Hossain stated that the Chief Justice had assigned 16 HC judges to inspect subordinate courts in 31 districts across the country.

The HC judges who inspected the activities of the lower courts were Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury, Justice Zinat Ara, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan, Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim, Justice Md Rezaul Haque, Justice Md Shawkat Hossain, Justice ANM Bashir Ullah, Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique, Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder, Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha, Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury, Justice KM Kamrul Kader, Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam.

The 31 district courts are Tangail, Habiganj, Moulavibazar, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Sirajganj, Bogra, Barisal, Jhalakati, Bhola, Noakhali, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Jaypurhat, Lalmonirhat, Khulna, Bagerhat, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Lakshmipur, Feni, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, and Brahmanbaria.

A top SC official said that the remaining district courts were earlier inspected by the other HC judges. Following the inspection reports, the SC had earlier taken action against some judges, he added.
