Woman, daughter killed in Bogra

A woman and her daughter were found dead at their residence in Bhandariapara area of Bogra sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Locals said Kapia Aktar, 33, wife of Golam Mostafa, a resident of Bhandariapara, used to live in a rented house with her daughter Ayesha Aktar, 5. On Tuesday, neighbours found the door of Kapia closed from inside all the day.
As they did not found any response from inside after knocking repeated times, the nighbours entered the room breaking open the door only to see the body of Kapia and Ayesha lying on the bed.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sanatan Chakrabarti said a group of criminals might have strangulated Papia and her daughter. However, the reason behind the murder could not be known immediate.
8 ‘robbers’ held in Chuadanga

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested eight robbers from Hijogari bazaar area in Chuadanga sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Police also recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession. The arrestees are Korban Ali, Lokman Hossain of village Mohamaya, Toriqul Islam of village Mohamaya, Lal Chand of village Ruddopur, Shahanur Rahman of village Ruddopur, Akimul Islam of village Ruddapur, Abu Bokar Siddique of village Gupalpur in Jhenidah sadar upazila and Shahidul Islam of village Vatipar in Lalmonirhat district.
Police Super Nizamuddin said on information, a team of police, led by OC Nazmul Haque raided Hijolgari bazaar in the district and arrested them. A case was filed with Chuadanga police station.
Siblings held for drug peddling

The officials of Narcotics Control Department arrested a brother and sister along with an Indian Air gun, 370 bottles of Phensidyl, 7kg hemp, and cash Tk 20000 from Marua village in Chaugachha upazila on Tuesday.
The arrested were identified as Shafikul Islam, 28, and his sister Ayesha Begum.
Md Nazmul Kabir, deputy director of Jessore district Narcotics Control Department said on secret information of drugs peddling at the village the officials of the department conducted a drive at the area and arrested them.
Missing boy found dead
Sherpur: A minor boy, who went missing a day ago, was found dead in a garden near to Jhinaigati Mohila Adarsha Degree College in Jhinaigati upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
Quoting witnesses, police said locals spotted the body of Al Mamun, 7, son of Md Rabbani Mia of Dakabar village, in the garden and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body around 9:30 am and sent it to district hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Biplob Kumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Jhinaigati Police Station, said Mamun remained missing from Tuesday evening and his father filed a general diary in this connection last night.
Several injury marks were found on the body of the deceased, OC Biplob said.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Alam, assistant superintendent of police (Nalitabari circle), visited the spot.
Road crash kills woman
Chuadanga: A woman was killed as a speeding truck ran her over at Ujirpur village of Damurhuda upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shahida Begum, 35, wife of late Shahjahan Ali of Bhimrullah village of the upazila.
Abu Jihad, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said that the accident took place when the truck hit the pedestrian from behind while she was going to neighbouring village to search a job, leaving her dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
2 held with yaba tablets
Cox’s Bazar: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two people along with 24,000 pieces of yaba pills from Link Road area in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Md Rashidul Islam, 45, son of late Nurul Alam of Thimchhari in Ukhia upazila and Md Rashid Ahmed, 44, son of late Mohammad Ali of Haldia Palong village in the same upazila.
Tipped off that a consignment of yaba is being smuggled through Teknaf-Cox’s Bazar road, a team of Rab-7 conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a truck around 12:10 am. They then arrested the duo along with the consignment of contraband pills and seized the truck, said a Rab press release.
The arrestees and the seized vehicle were handed over to Cox’ Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, it added.
500 farmers get seedlings
JAMALPUR: T-Aman seedlings were distributed among 500 small and marginal farmers in Islampur upazila of the district today for increasing production of the paddy, reports BSS.
Local Lawmaker Faridul Haque Khan Dulal distributed the seedlings among the farmers at Islampur High School field as the chief guest.
Faridul Haque said the government always stands beside the flood-hit people and assistance to the flood victims will continue till harvesting the next crops.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rubel Mahmud presided over the distribution function while Additional Secretary and Director General (Seed wing) of Agriculture Ministry Ashraf Uddin Ahmed, Additional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension, Dhaka Dr Md Abdus Salam, Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Kabir Uddin and Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Md Abu Hanif were present, among others, on the occasion.
