A Juba League activist was hacked to death allegedly by rivals in Hatia upazila of Noakhali district yesterday.
The deceased was Riaz Uddin, 27, an activist of Sonadia union unit of the ruling party’s youth wing and son of Korban Ali of Purbo Sonadia village.
Union Awami League President and UP Chairman Nurul Islam said Riaz was having tea at a shop at local Seku Market when some miscreants, led by Abdul Wahab, swooped on him around 11am.
The attackers chopped him indiscriminately and severed the tendons of his hands and legs, leaving him seriously injured.
The Juba League man was taken to Hatia Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred him to Noakhali General Hospital. However, he died on the way to the district hospital. Officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station Abdul Mazid said they deployed additional policemen in the area.
