Tangail: The Jamuna River has devoured about 100 metres area located in around two kilometres of south part of the Bangabandhu Bridge at Gohaliabari in Kalihati upazila, creating panic among locals, reports UNB.
Initially geo-sacks are being dumped to thwart erosion, said sources at Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
The erosion turned serious on Wednesday morning as water level of the mighty river started going down, said Wasim Ali, assistant engineer at the bridge area of Bangabandhu Bridge Authority.
The bridge protection guide embankment will not face any damage as the erosion happened far away from it, Wasim also said.
All the required initiatives are being taken to prevent erosion in east side of the Jamuna River. Meanwhile, croplands and 10 to 12 houses in the locality have been damaged by the erosion of the river.
