Discussion on Bangabandhu held at DU
A discussion was held at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) auditorium at Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday marking the National Mourning Day and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
DU IBA organised the meeting with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique attending as chief guest, said a DU release here.
Addressing the function, Professor Arefin Siddique urged the young generation to make the destitute people smile following ideals of Bangabandhu. He advised them to study the works and political ideology of Bangabandhu for materializing his dream of 'Sonar Bangla'. IBA Director Professor AKM Saiful Majid presided over the discussion.

Indian Professor meets DU VC
Physics Department Professor of Indian Institute of Technology Argyo Tarfder paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on the campus here on Monday. During the meeting, they exchanged views on quality of higher education in physics and theoretical physics, said a DU release.
Professor Arefin Siddique thanked Professor Argyo for visiting Dhaka University.

Seminar on ‘Good Governance in Higher Education Institutions’ held at IUB
A Seminar on ‘Good Governance in Higher Education Institutions’ was held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB)’s own campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Sunday, says a press release.  Educationist and Professor of English, Syed Manzoorul Islam was present in the Seminar as the chief guest and delivered key speech on the theme of the programme.
The programme focused on different aspects of good governance at the tertiary level educational institutions that include efficacy, work ethics, financial integrity, sense of ownership, and leadership.
Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB chaired the session while Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education and Project Director, ‘Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP)’ was present as the special guest.
The program was jointly organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at IUB established under the project titled ‘Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP)’ and Independent University, Bangladesh.

DUTA distributes flood relief in Gaibandha
Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) yesterday distributed relief materials among 200 flood affected families of Bharatkhali union of Shaghata upazila of the district.
Local sources said more than 50 unions including Bharatkhali were flooded recently creating untold sufferings of the people.
 To mitigate their sufferings, the DUTA has stood beside the flood victims of Bharatkhali union as part its of social corporate responsibility and distributed relief materials to them this morning.
A simple function was also held on the premises of the union parishad (UP) office with UP Chairman Shamsul Azad Shital in the chair.
DUTA member Md. Mahidul Haque Prodhan formally distributed the packets of relief materials to the flood victims. Each of the relief packets contained rice, lentil, soya bean oil, salt, shemai, sugar, candle, firebox, biscuit, oral saline and medicine, said the UP chairman.
As part of the programme, the DUTA will distribute relief materials among 100 flood affected families of Rasulpur union of Sadullapur upazila on Thursday.
The people from all walks of life thanked the DUTA for standing beside the flood victims.

10 students get NNEF scholarship
A total of 10 students of Jahangirngar University (JU) got Nagao Natural Environmental Foundation (NNEF) scholarship for the 3rd phase.   
Vice-chancellor of Jahangirngar University (JU) Professor Dr. Farzana Islam handed over cheques of the stipend money among students at the counseling room of JU administrative building with an austere ceremony on Monday.  
Addressing the ceremony, JU VC said, “This award will encourage these students to gain knowledge of science and also to involve themselves in research”.
Pro VC Professor Dr Abul Hossain (Academic), Pro VC Professor Dr Amir Hussain (Administration) and Dean of Biological Science Faculty Professor Dr Abdul Zabber Hawlader addressed the programme among others.  
Mentionable, NNEF a Japan based non-governmental research organisation launched a scholarship to support the undergraduate students at developing countries in Asia to promote natural conservation and research.
   As a part of their activities, it nominates 10 students every year under this scholarship that was approved by a three-member committee of the university.
