Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said those leaving the capital to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones will enjoy hassle-free journeys, reports UNB.

“Flood-ravaged roads have already been repaired to ensure smooth vehicular movement. So, there'll be no hurdle for the passengers during their Eid trips,” he said ruling out the possibility of traffic gridlocks on highways as feared by some quarters.

The minister came up with the remarks after visiting the Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the capital.

He said some 50 BRTC buses have been kept reserved to meet the heavy pressure of passengers ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. Quader also said the authorities concerned will take immediate actions against them if any bus owner charges extra fares from passengers.

While visiting Hemayetpur bus station in Savar, the minister said militancy may emerge in the country once again if BNP does not participate in the next national election, reports UNB's Savar correspondent. “Militancy and fire terrorism can stage a comeback if BNP doesn't participate in the next parliamentary election. Awami League wants BNP to participate in the polls spontaneously,” he said.

He said they will face the protest politically but no chaos will be allowed if BNP goes for any protest the way they killed people in the name of protecting democracy after the last national election.

"If such a situation revisits, the administration and law enforcement agencies will give them a tough reply," said the minister.
