An Indian team will visit and talk with the people of former Indian enclaves in Bangladessh’s Kurigram and Panchagarh districts on August 17 to settle the issue of the repatriation of some of them, it was decided at a meeting held yesterday between officials of both countries. The meeting at deputy commissioner and district magistrate level was held at Changrabandha of Indian yesterday to resolve some outstanding issues relating to the 162 enclaves that were exchanged between the two countries at midnight on July 31. A 16-member delegation, including police superintendent, BGB and other officials, led by DC of Lalmonirhat Habibur Rahaman took part in the meeting from the Bangladesh side, while DM of Cochbihar P Ulangonath led the Indian team that included Additional DM Aysha Rani and sub-divisional officers of Mekligonj. After the meeting, which began at noon and concluded at 6 pm, the deputy commissioner said the discussion included land-related issues, such as land records of the former enclaves, and the procedure to send over 51 people who opted for India and 15 who chose to stay behind in Bangladesh after the deadline to choose nationality had expired before the historic exchange.
