Angry passengers allegedly beat a bus driver to death around 11pm last night as the vehicle was late in reaching Sayedabad bus terminal in the capital. The deceased driver was identified as Shibu Chandra Dey, 45, of Jaflong, Sylhet. The bus helper, Shamim Hossain, told reporters that the inter-district bus from Sylhet was supposed to reach the Janapad crossing at 10 pm, but it was delayed by an hour due to heavy traffic within the city. The waiting passengers became angry and beat up the driver when it reached the spot, he added. The seriously injured driver was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Mozzamel Haque, inspector in-charge of the DMCH police camp. When contacted, Oboni Sankar, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, confirmed the incident to this correspondent. However, he could not give further details immediately.
