EC announces dates for dialogues with BNP, 7 other parties

Election Commission (EC) yesterday fixed the dates for holding dialogues with eight more registered political parties, including the BNP, as part of its election roadmap. EC sources yesterday said they would send letters of invitation to the eight parties within the day. As per the EC’s schedule, the commission would sit with Oikyabaddha Nagorik Andolan at 11 am on September 17 and Bangladesh Jatiya Party at 3 pm on the same day.

Dialogues will be held on Sep 18 with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Progotishil Ganatantrik Dal, on Sep 20 Gono Front and Ganoforum and on Sep 21 with Jamiyate Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh and National Peoples Party, EC said.  

EC kicked off its talks with the registered political parties on Aug 24 and has already held discussions with Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote, Bangladesh Muslim League and Khelafat Majlish.

The Commission will hold dialogues with Bangladesh Biplobi Workers party and Gonotantrik Party today as per its earlier schedule.

Earlier, the EC had announced the dates for dialogues  with 12 parties and now it has announced dates for another eight

parties. The Commission would sit will all the 40 registered political parties in turn, seeking their proposals, suggestion and opinions on holding the next parliamentary polls.

Earlier, the EC sat with civil society member on July 31 and representatives of print and electronic media on Aug 16 and 17.

During the previous dialogues, a number of issues including interim government, ensuring participatory polls, army deployment, level plying field, resisting black money, arms and muscle powers, election expenditure, were brought up by the parties.  

The EC said that they would consider proposals from the parties for holding a free, fair, credible and participatory election.
