Obaidul sees conspiracies

Expressing grave concern over the influx of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, the ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said there might be a conspiracy behind the Rohingya influx in the country. “The way Rohingya refugees have been entering our country, is very serious concern for us. I think it is a conspiracy against our country. We noticed such conspiracy against the country earlier,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with the statements at a press conference after attending a joint meeting with the party’s departmental secretaries, at the Dhanmondi political office in the capital.

Hundreds of fresh Rohingya refugees have been entering Bangladesh territory from Myanmar in the last couple of weeks following the continuous bloodshed in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.

“We have no capacity to give shelter to Rohingyas in the country but many people are doing politics over issue,” he said. At the same time he accused BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia of doing ill-politics over Rohingya issue. Earlier, on Monday BNP chief Khaleda Zia called upon the government to give shelter to the Rohingyas in the country on the humanitarian ground.

However, the AL general secretary called upon the Myanmar government to sit for talks over the Rohingya issue to resolve the prevailing crisis.

Quader said the party will send an 18-member delegation led by its presidium member Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan to China on September 19.  Talking to this correspondent Faruk Khan said they will visit china in the next month and they will discuss with the China Communist Party over the Rohingya issue during the visit.
