Road crash kills BGB personnel

A member of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was crushed under the wheels of a bus in Jhikargacha upazila of the district yesterday.
The BGB man identified as Mofijur Rahman, 30, was a resident at Hogladanga village of Monipur upazila of the district. He belonged to the battalion -51at Boarder Guard Bangladesh.
Police said the accident took place on Jessore-Benapole Road in Hajir Ali area morning when Mofijur was getting down from the bus. Unfortunately, he fell down on the road and crushed by the wheels of the bus. He died on the spot.
Man kills mother, niece
Faridpur: A young man slaughtered his mother and niece at Kamargram of Boalmari municipality early yesterday, reports UNB.
Md Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said that Shishir, 32, along with her mother, aged around 60, and three-year-old niece Sraboni, hailing from Jhenidah district, used to live in a rented house owned by Bibhtu Bhushan Saha in the area.
Shishir confessed to police that he pushed injection to her mother and niece and slaughtered them early in the morning. Later, he tried to commit suicide and received critical injuries.
On information, police recovered the bodies and arrested Shishir from the house around 9:30 am.
Shishir, who worked for a private company, had been suffering from depression for long, added the OC.
Teacher held for ‘raping’ female student
Jhenidah: Police arrested a schoolteacher in Sadar upazila on Sunday night in a case filed over the rape of a female student, reports UNB.
The arrestee is Rabiul Islam, a physical education teacher of Paschim Durgapur Secondary Girls' School and a resident at Mohamaya village in the area.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Rabiul had long been sexually abusing the female students of the school.
The father of one of the victims filed a rape case with the police station against the teacher, he said.
Later, police arrested him around 11:30pm and produced him before a court on Monday which sent him to jail, the OC added.
Relief materials distributed among flood victims
Edotco Bangladesh Co Ltd, a tower business company, provided assistance to the flood affected people in Kurigram district, says a press release.
Officials of the company recently distributed various relief materials among over 550 flood-affected families at Chilmari Upazila Complex in the district. They provided dried goods including rice, potatoes, vegetables, cooking oil and spices.
According to the report of Red Crescent & Red Cross, more than 16 million people across Nepal, Bangladesh and India have been affected by the flooding, with many being displaced from their homes and agricultural land.
Managing Director of edotco Bangladesh Rahul Chaudhary said, “As a responsible corporate entity, we opted to provide support to the residents of Kurigram to ease their recovery in one of the worst natural disasters that has hit Bangladesh this year.”
Lightning kills two farmers
Pirojpur: Two farmers were killed by lightning strike at Ataurkhali village in Bhandaria upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Hossain, 30, son of Moyenuddin Khan and Nasiruddin Hawlader, 32, son of Abdus Sattar of the village.
Kamruzzaman Talukder, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station, said that the lightning struck them while they were working in their paddy field around 10.30 am, leaving duo dead on the spot.
