Stress on keeping Gaibandha town free from traffic jam

GAIBANDHA: Speakers here yesterday have underscored the need for making the district town free from traffic jam and keeping it neat and clean all times to turn it into a good municipality.

They were addressing a view exchange meeting with the political leaders, town elite, and officials at the conference room of District Collectorate here on Monday, reports BSS.

With deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by police super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, president of District Motor Owners Association Quazi M. Mokbul Hossain, president of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shajada Anwarul Quadir, traffic inspector Ryhan Ibn Rahman Kazal, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.

During the meeting decisions were adopted to remove traffic jam from the town and to keep the town neat and clean.

The decisions included shifting the tickets counters of Dhaka coaches inside the bus terminal, leaving for Rangpur bound passenger buses from the bus terminal in place of DB Road, cutting the old and big rain trees from the roadsides, and keeping the drainage system fully functional through removing waste and rubbish from it.

The decisions also included not to issue license more than 2,000 auto bikes and 1,000 rickshaws by Gaibandha Municipality authority, not to allow loaded trucks and covered vans in the town from 6 am to 6 pm and evicting shops from the pavements.

Police super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled said the traffic jam would be removed from the town for easy and smooth movement of the town dwellers side by side with enhancing beautification in the municipality.

DC Gautam Chandra Pal sought whole hearted cooperation from all walks of life here to implement the decisions properly to have a better municipality.

More than 50 political leaders, town elite, and officials including journalists took part in the meeting.
