Bangladesh swimmers stole the show in the 74th World Long Distance Swimming Championship in Bhagrathi River in Murshidabad, West Bengal, on Sunday, according to an ISPR press release.
Bangladesh male swimmers earned rare distinction of winning first three places in the 19 KM distance from Ziaganj to Berhampur.
Sainik Faisal Ahmed of Bangladesh Army became first clocking 2 hours 12 minutes. Palash Chowdhury of Bangladesh Navy finished second with a timing of 2 hours 16 minute. Sainik Jewel Ahmed of Army took 2 hours 16 minutes 01 seconds to finish third.
In the women’s event Nazma Khatun of Navy became second with 2 hours 23 minutes. The fourth place also went to Sonaia Akhtar Tumpa of Navy. Sainik Nayema Akhtar of Army finished ninth.
And in the men’s 81 KM, Ashiqur Rahman of Navy clinched the four spot, while Asif Rana of Army finished 9th.
A total of 107 swimmers drawn from Bangladesh, India, Sweden Spain and Thailand took part in the championship.
