Dhaka Test tit-bit

Sports Reporter

Tamim’s bad luck
Twice he stood on a good chance to become the 37th batsmen of the world to score century in the 50th Test but twice he got unplayable delivery to be dismissed. Tamim Iqbal could feel him unlucky for a reason. He was out on 71 in the first innings and 78 in the second innings. The dismissal in second innings would feel him more unlucky actually as umpire wasn’t convinced that he was out. Shrewd Steven Smith didn’t hesitate to call for DRS instantly and it showed the ball touched his bat before it went to wicket-keeper. And he missed the chance to emulate the feat what earlier was achieved by the likes of Jack Hobbs, Sir Viv Richards, Javed Miandad and contemporary Steven Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Willamson.

Smith’s lady luck
Throughout the third day, luck was with Smith. He took some shrewd decision to trap Bangladeshi batsmen successfully. He was tactically good in utilising the DRS. And he is still in the crease. He could have gone without opening his account when he himself was convinced that he was stumped. He started walking back to the dressing but the umpires resisted him and asked TV replay what showed he didn’t cross the line. And then he, aided by Warner’s fluent batting kept Australia in the position of dominance.

Khawaja’s woeful run in sub-continent
Usman Khawaja’s latest score at sub-continent 21(58), 26(68), 13*(32), 26(62), 18(22), 11(44),0(1),1(2),1(6) would indicate how woeful form he is in here. In the five matches he played in Asia, he scored just 117 at a meager average of 14. Not only that he has only one hundred outside Australia (that too in New Zealand.

Mushfiqur’s unfortunate run out
When Mushfiqur Rahim was batting, it looked Bangladesh wouldn’t throw a target anything less than 350. Despite the dismissal of Tamim, Mushfiqur was serene in driving Bangladesh towards a strong total. But an unfortunate run out not only let him down, but also gave Australia a chance to dominate Bangladesh. He was at bowlers’ end when Sabbir Rahman played a powerful shot that deflected the stump before Nathan Lyon managed to get a bit of hand on it. Much to the despair of Bangladeshi fan, Mushfiqur looked complete unaware of what could happen as he responded late to place his bat. He was dismissed and Bangladesh tasted sensational collapse losing three wickets in 10 balls without scoring any runs.
