Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Kitack Lim yesterday assured Bangladesh that the IMO will provide all-out support for exploring potentials in the country’s shipping sector, reports UNB.
Bangladesh is an important IMO member and it has huge potentials in its shipping sector, Lim said when he met President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
During the meeting, the IMO Secretary General lauded the progress of Bangladesh’s Marine Training Academy and its shipbuilding industry.
Welcoming Lim at Bangabhaban, President Hamid said Bangladesh is now building inland ships and ocean-going vessels maintaining the international standard.
Mentioning that Bangladesh also has enough trained naval crew, he sought cooperation from the IMO in creating job opportunities in foreign ships and strengthening the capacity of Bangladesh’s shipping sector.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present during the meeting.
