Construction of Barisal Engineering College nearly completion: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday said construction works of Barisal Engineering College is nearly completion and the authorities are expecting to enroll students for the next academic Session, reports BSS.
“A total of Taka 91.54 crore will be spent for completing construction work of Barisal Engineering College," he told a meeting of Annual Development Programme (ADP) under Technical and Madrasha Division here, an official release said. Secretary of Technical and Madrasha Division Md Alamgir, senior officials of the ministry, among others, attended the meeting.

Skill and Training Enhancement Project under Directorate of Technical
Education is implementing at a cost of Taka 1,782.13 crore.
The minister said the government has increased enrolment of students to 14 per cent from one aiming to create skilled workforce.
“As part of its efforts to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income
country, the government has set a target to reach 20 percent technical and vocational education by 2020,” he added.

DU Eid holiday begins from today
Dhaka University (DU) declared a 12-day vacation from August 30 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, DU officials said on Saturday.
All classes and examinations will remain closed till September 10 while the administrative activities from August 31 to September 7, they added.
The academic activities will resume on September 11 while the administrative activities will start again on September 10.

NU honours' exams rescheduled
The postponed honors examination-2016, scheduled for August 26, under National University (NU) will be held on October 19 at 1:30 pm, according to an official release issued in Dhaka yesterday.
Other date and time of the examination will remain unchanged, the release added.
Besides, the revised time schedules for the postponed Degree Pass and Certificate courses examinations under the university were published.
According to the schedules, the exams will be held from September 9, the release said.
Detailed information about the examinations are available on the university website www.nu.edu.bd and www.nubd.info, the release added.

10 students get Sitara Parvin Award
Ten students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka University yesterday received the “Professor
Sitara Parvin Award” for their outstanding results in BSS (honours) examinations, 2016.
The recipients are - Nawshin Jahan Etee, Priyanka Kundu, Masud Al Mahadi, Farhad Uddin, Arnab Biswas, Farhin Binte Siddique, Nadia Nahrin, Johora, Shafiqul Alam and Bani Amin Islam.
DU Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over prize money among the recipients at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium, said a press release.
MCJ Department Chairman Professor Mofizur Rhaman chaired the function while filmmaker Moshiuddin Saker delivered a memorial lecture titled “Ami and Amar Chalochitro’ on late Professor Sitara Parvin.
Paying rich tributes to Prof Sitara Parvin, Prof Arefin Siddique urged the students to learn from the life and works of the late teacher of the MCJ department.
Professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali, husband of Sitara Parvin, and teacher of MCJ department also spoke on the occasion.
Sitara Parvin, a teacher of the MCJ Department, died in a road accident in the USA on 23 June, 2005.
On the other hand, Fatema Khatun and Etee Khatun of Marketing Department of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday awarded with “Maleka Anwar Scholarship” for their outstanding academic results.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over the cheques of scholarship among the students as the chief guest at a function held at the lounge adjacent to his office on the campus, said a DU release here.
DU Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin, donor of the Trust Fund Prof Rashida Begum and her family members were present on the occasion, among others.
Prof Arefin Siddique congratulated the awardees and urged them to play an effective role to make the country as a prosperous one.

Workshop for DU young journos ends
UK based British Council in Dhaka on Monday handed over certificates to the participants after ending of a four-day workshop on ‘Spoken English’ for the young Dhaka University (DU) journalists.
Aoife Garrigan, assistant director of British Council handed over certificates to the participants at a function held at the Fuller Road, the head office of British Council in Dhaka.
Among other, Arshia Aziz, head of Marketing and Communication, Madhuri Rahman of Business Training and Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) president Forhad Uddin were present on the occasion.
Under the supervision of DUJA a total of 20 campus journalists who were selected through a test participated in the workshop.
