Members of fire service and civil defense yesterday morning recovered the bodies of two missing schoolgirls, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Bhairab River at Rashikpur ferry terminal in Mujibnagar upazila on Sunday afternoon. Officer-in-Chrage of Mujibnagar police station Kazi Abdus Salek said the rescue operation was suspended at 10.30 pm on Sunday. They resumed their search yesterday morning and recovered the bodies from ferry ghat area and handed over those to their relatives. The deceased were identified as Babita Khatun, daughter of Hashem Ali and Tania Khatun, daughter of Habur Ali. They were the students of class -VII at Bagwan Secondary School and inhabitants of Rashikpur village of the same upazila. Police quoting local people said a total of 38 girl students were returning from their school on Sunday afternoon. They boarded a boat to cross the Bhairab River. The boat capsized in the middle of the river due to overloading. Some four students were rescued by the local people and were sent to health complex in critical condition while two remained missing.
