A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for construction of a 13.32-km-long flyover, from Shantinagar to Jhilmil, was finalised yesterday. Around Tk 1,700-1,800 crore will be needed to construct the flyover.
“We have finalised all the relevant matters needed to sign the MoU for the flyover's construction. The China Railway Construction Company Cooperation (CRCC) Limited will construct the flyover, and an MoU in this regard will be signed today,” housing and public works minister, Mosharraf Hossain, told reporters after a meeting at the secretariat.
The MoU will be signed between Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and CRCC, at RAJUK Bhaban.
RAJUK chairman GM Joinal Abedin and CRCC vice-president Hu Fan are expected to sign the MoU, on behalf of their organisations.
Among others, secretary of the ministry, Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, RAJUK chairman GM Joinal Abedin, additional secretary SM Arif-ur Rahman, Chittagong Unnayan Kartripakkha (CUK) chairman Abdus Salam, RAJUK chief engineer (implementation), Hafizur Rahman Munshi, RAJUK chief engineer (project and design), Anwar Hossain, Prime Minister’s Office's PPP project officer, Afsar Uddin, CRCC senior adviser Chai Xi, CRCC vice-president Hu Fan, CRCC manager Ma Xiaojing, and other officials attended the meeting.
“The flyover would help reduce traffic congestion in the capital. People will be able to smoothly cross the capital within a few minutes, after completion of the flyover,” the minister said.
Besides, the meeting also discussed about the construction of the 5-km-long Bahaddarhat flyover in Chittagong.
CUK will construct the flyover using its own funds. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has given directions to extend the flyover to Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport.
The extended length of the Bahaddarhat flyover will be 16 kms, and CRCC will construct the extended portion. An MoU will also be signed between CUK and CRCC in this regard, today
