A writ petition filed in the High Court yesterday challenged the legality of the government’s decision to deduct five marks from second-time admission seekers in medical and dental colleges. Seeking a stay on the government decision, Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, who filed the petition, said it was discriminatory, illegal and contradictory to the national education policy.
Akond later told reporters that he would move the HC bench of Justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md. Jahangir Hossain on Monday for hearing the petition.
The petition said that the government decision has violated the constitutional provision of equality and equal opportunity to the candidates. “As per our Constitution, nobody can be subjected to discrimination. But the decision to deduct five marks is discriminatory against second-time admission seekers,” Akond said.
