16,707 fail in HSC exams under Barisal board

As many as 16,707 examinees from  296 Colleges out of the total 301 have  failed in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations under Barisal Education Board this year. Only five Colleges, including Barisal Cadet College, scored cent percent pass rate this year. According to BEB result statistics, a total of 56,680 examinees registered for HSC examinations this year. Of the total, 876 students did not appear at the examinations, a total 39,097 examinees passed the examinations while 16,707 failed.
Of the failed examinees, highest 5,623 are from 88 out of 90 colleges in Barisal district, 1,192 are from 28 colleges of Jhalakathi, 2,230 examinees from 42 out of 44 colleges of Pirojpur, 1669 examinees from 35 colleges in Barguna, 2,265 from 44 colleges in Bhola and 3728  examinees from 58 out of 59 Colleges of Patuakhali district.
Apart, not a single student passed from five colleges under BEB this year.
Of the total, all the nine examinees of Chandkhali Isshak Secondary School and College of Barguna, 16 examinees of Kakchira secondary school and College of Barguna, 26 examinees of Dhumki Nasima Keamot Ali Mohila College of Patuakhali, seven examinees of Majidbaria College of Patuakhali and five examinees of Bhandaria Behari Pilot Secondary School and College failed this year.
BEB will take actions of these institutions, said Controller M Shah Alamgir.
Barisal Education Board sources confirmed that a total of 71, 077 examinees failed in the last five years here. Numbers of failed examinees are increasing every year. A total of 10,300 HSC examinees failed in the year of 2011 while the figure was 13,857 in 2012, a total of 14,716 candidates failed in 2013, a total of 15,499 students failed in the year of 2014 and a total 16,707 examinees  failed this year.
Sharmin Akter, a housewife of the city and guardian of a HSC examinee of Amrita Lal Dey College, said his only son did not achieve GPA-5 this year.  But he obtained an excellent result with GPA-5 in SSC.
Sharmin said a total of 360 GPA-5 holders have got admission to the college but only 213 of them achieved same results in HSC. She questioned why 147 GPA-5 holders of the college have lost their form in HSC.
She said that government has no right for plying with the merit of the students. Lutfunnesa Begum, another guardian of an examinee of Government Women College, blamed college teachers for failure of her daughter. She said teachers of the college failed in preparing her daughter for new creative method and ICT.
Prof. Tapankar Chakraborty, principal of Amrita Lal Dey College, acknowledging the facts that a huge number of examinees failed said both the teachers and the students did not get sufficient time to achieve the new creative method in about all the subjects. Divisional convener of Jatiya Shikkhak Karmachari Front and Principal of Barisal Islamia College Prof Mohsin Ul Islam Habul said that the government in the name of digital Bangladesh was plying game with the lives of the students throwing one by one new methods in a short time.
