An embankment with sluice gate near Kuakata sea shore has been cut through by villagers over a fishing dispute.
But the cutting of the road-cum embankment at Fasipara on Friday has badly disrupted communication affecting the people, including school children, of five adjoining villages. Locals said one Alim Mia of Fasipara village had absolute control over fishing in the water body at Azimuddin sluice gate area. This domination has angered his rivals there.
On Friday, village police Shahjalal and Sohrab, led the rival group in people cut down the embankment at the sluice gate point. The embankment links the five villages -- Fasipara, Melapara, Mongthepara, Bahamkanda and Naiuripara – with Kuakata tourist resort and Alipur-Mahipur fish port.
Besides the movement of people with merchandise through the embankment, the children of Fasipara government primary school, students of Alipur Abu Hanif Khan Secondary High School and the students of Kuakata Khanabad College use this way.
Mawlana Sher-e-Alam, president of Fasipara government primary school managing committee, said villagers and children of the primary school have been suffering while passing through Azimuddin sluice-embankment road. The people, who cut down the embankment, should repair the embankment in people’s interest, he said.  Abu Sayed Fakir, Latachapli UP Chairman in-charge, admitting the fact said it was wrong to cut down the embankment there. Many people use this road. Now more money will be needed to repair this road again, he said adding necessary steps will be taken against those who were involved in the act.
