Exports to Europe post moderate growth during 2016-17 FY

The countrys export to key European destinations like Germany, the UK, Italy, France showed moderate performance during 2016-17 fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year (2015-16), reports UNB.
During the last fiscal year, export to Germany, the second largest destination of Bangladesh exportable items, totalled $5,475.73 million, which was 15.72 per cent of the total export earnings for the period.
Of the amount, knitwear accounted for $ 2,814.77 million, woven garment $2,320.25 million and home textiles $74.69 million, according to latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The EPB figures showed that exports to the UK during last fiscal totalled $3,569.26 million, which was 10.25 per cent of the total export earnings for the twelve-month period. The export of woven garment to the UK during the last fiscal year period were $1,637.55 million, knitwear $1,668.95 million, home textile export to the UK during the period was $62.61 million, and bicycles $40.23 million.
Exports to France during the July-June period of the last fiscal reached $1,892.55 million, which accounted for 5.43 per cent of the total export earnings for the period.
Exports to Italy totalled $1,462.95 million during the last July-June period with knitwear accounting for $870.61 million, woven garment $477.97 million and leather, leather products $30.96 and footwear with $34.57 million.
Exports to Belgium amounted to $918.85 million that included knitwear $388.34 million, woven garment $364.82 million and jute and jute made goods $21.45 million.
