Speakers at a discussion in the capital have urged the industries to implement the Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) to help industries reduce energy consumption having better waste management in place, reports UNB.
They said effective application of RECP will help enterprises recover lost revenues, reduce consumption of resources, disposal of wastes and improve overall environmental performance.
The speakers came up with the observation at a business forum on ‘resource efficient cleaner production and its benefits for metal industries’ at Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Saturday, said a DCCI press release yesterday.
The event was jointly organised by DCCI and METABUILD Bangladesh, an EU funded project, with DCCI Director Engineer Akber Hakim in the chair.
Akber Hakim said energy is significant to the steady economic growth of Bangladesh. “RECP initiative is a proven approach in many Asian and European countries in shaping the industrial efficiency. If RECP is introduced in our industries, we’ll be able to reduce 25 per cent energy consumption, 15 per cent resource waste in Bangladesh,” he said.
Hakim also said RECP allows industries to increase process efficiency while decreasing environmental impact and cost.
Project Manager of METABUILD Project ASM Asaduzzaman Patwary said industrialisation in Bangladesh cannot progress and facilitate the expected economic growth without uninterrupted energy supply in the future.
He said, “Considering our limited energy resource, Bangladesh can adopt the RECP as it is a holistic approach to enhance environmental performance of industrial enterprises by reducing wastages of resources at source.”
Bangladesh Auto Rerolling Mills Association General Secretary M Shahidullah, Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufactures Association President Mohammad Aftab Jabed, Bangladesh Electrical Cable Manufacturers Association Senior Vice President M Moajjem Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
Communication and Networking Expert of SWITCH-Asia Network Facility Dr Uwe Weber and Team Leader Silvia Sartori were also present.
They said RECP will benefit metal enterprises in Bangladesh and will create a culture of efficient resource use and no waste in enterprise.
About 40 participants from 20 different industries were present.
