Govt out to destroy state’s basic pillars: Mosharraf

UNB

BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday alleged that the government is conspiring to 'destroy' the state's basic pillars to enforce a 'one-party' rule on people, reports UNB.

“The government is carrying out all of its activities to indirectly restore one-party Baksal rule through ruining the country's all institutions. They're now plotting to destroy the three main pillars of the state,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the allegation while speaking at a discussion arranged by Jatiya Swaran Mancha at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 41st death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said Awami League leaders have been suffering from insomnia since the Supreme Court delivered its verdict annulling the 16th amendment to the Constitution. “The ruling party general secretary, ministers and their supporters are making all evil efforts to make the verdict questionable to people.”

He said the ruling party men are staging human chain programmes and taking out processions with bamboos against the verdict. “We would like to say talking against any verdict is tantamount to contempt of court.”

Criticising the Awami League leaders for asking Chief Justice SK Sinha to quit, the BNP leader said it is an unprecedented call by the ruling party only to belittle the judiciary. “We think the Chief Justice is an institution. If the Chief Justice resigns under the pressure of the ruling party, the judiciary will be destroyed.”

He said the government should have resigned accepting the verdict and its observations. The BNP leader alleged that a suffocating situation has been prevailing in the country as the government has 'obliterated democracy' and snatched people's all rights, including voting one.
