It was the first day of two-match Test series between the host Bangladesh and Australia but the surroundings and the atmosphere of the Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium looked as it was any match of the Ashes between England and Australia at the Oval, Lord’s or the Old Trafford or at the Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, in terms of crowds’ enthusiasm.
This kind of scenario during a Test match is only grasped when the arch rivals England and Australia or India and Pakistan host each other.
But the above countries have the hundreds years of cricket history and also they are the rivals for decades and in this respect, the journey of the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium yet to be completed 12 years when it began its journey just 11 years before, in December, 2006.
No other Test cricket matches but the Ashes or India-Pakistan can inject the thrill among the fans, rather than these matches crowds usually get less interest and most of the time the Test cricket usually take places in the presence of very poor crowds, even in an empty gallery in some respect, in some venues.
However, it is reality that Bangladesh yet to reach on that height of world cricket, as England, Australia, India and Pakistan when they are the traditional rivals and Bangladesh cricket yet to have rivals like those countries.
But now it’s also a plain truth that Bangladesh being the youngest cricket nations among them, have already crafted the craze of cricket and outshined some other cricket nations, who were awarded the Test status before Bangladesh.
It is now almost a usual scenario that when Bangladesh host any of the leading cricket country, like India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and even Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, the stadium area gets a festivity with huge gathering with passionate cricket lovers.
