Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) in a recent drive detected massive electricity pilferage by two factories in the capital and cut off their lines, said a press release. On September 9, a taskforce of DPDC in a sudden drive at the DM Plastic Factory at Kamrangirchar area of the capital found that the factory had pilfered around 60,000 units of electricity in the last six months through tampering meter. The owner of the factory is Salauddin Danny Matubbar. DPDC found that Salauddin had long been involved in tampering meter using influence. In the same area, DPDC found that another industrial unit named ‘Meena Plastic’ had also pilfered 30,000 units of electricity during the time. The chief of DPDC taskforce, Munir Chowdhury, fined DM Plastic Tk16 lakh and Meena Plastic Tk7 lakh. The taskforce also cut off the power lines of the two factories.
