Jamalpur-Sarishabari train communication resumes

Train communication on Jamalpur-Sarishabari route resumed yesterday after repairing the railway track damaged by the ongoing flood.

Railway sources said the train service on the route came to a halt on August 16 as the track went under flood water in Kendua and Zafarshahi areas, damaging nearly two kilometers of the railway line.

On the other hand, train communication on Jamalpur-Dewanganj route resumed on the night of August 22. The train service on the route was snapped on August 14 following the damage of track by the flood.

Mother ‘ends life’ after ‘killing’ son in Faridpur

Faridpur: A young housewife allegedly committed suicide after 'killing' her two-year-old son at Borail village in Madhukhali upazila on Friday morning over a family feud, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Farida Begum, 25, wife of Amir Sheikh alias Fela, and their son Rasul Sheikh.

Locals said Farida locked into an altercation with her sister-in-law, wife of her husband's elder brother Alamgir, in the morning over family affairs. Later, Farida went to her room, strangulated her son Rasul to death and hanged herself from the ceiling of the room with a rope, said officer-in-charge of Madhukhali Police Station Ruhul Amin.

On information, police recovered the bodies at noon and sent those to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he said. An unnatural death case was registered.

College girl ‘commits suicide’

A female college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Hakoba Kundupara area of Monirampur upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Labonya Kundu, 19, daughter of Shekhar Kundu, and a 2nd year student of Monirampur Mahila College.

Quoting relatives, Mokarram Hossain, officer in-charge of Monirampur Police Station, said Labonya had a brawl with her mother on Thursday night over her study.

As there was no response from her till 9:30am, her family members entered her room breaking open the door and found her hanging from the beam. On information, police recovered the body.

59 held in Magura   

Magura: Police in a special drive arrested 59 people, accused in different cases, from different areas of four upazilas in the last two days, reports UNB.

Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Magura Police, said that the law enforcers conducted a 48-hour long special drive in the upazilas and arrested them.

The arrestees were absconding accused in different cases, the ASP added.

Teenager stabbed to death

Narail: A teenage boy was stabbed to death at Kaldanga village in Kalia upazila on Friday afternoon over establishing supremacy, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Azmal Fakir, 18, son of Mannan Fakir. Shimul Das, second officer of Kalia Police Station, said that there had been long standing dispute between Chanchuri union chairman Sirajul Islam Hirok and former chairman Lutfar Rahman.

Following the dispute, the supporters of Hirok stabbed Lutfar's supporter Azmal while he was going to a local market around 5:30 pm, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to Narail Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Two siblings, cousin drown

Kushtia: Two siblings and their maternal cousin drowned in a canal at Sheikhpara village in Kumarkhali upazila on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Salma Khatun, 5, Labony Khatun, 4, daughters of Saildul Islam of Sultanpur village and Mariam Khatun, 8, daughter of Shafiqul Islam of the village. Tofazzal Hossain Manik, chairman of Char Sadipur union, said Saidul along with his wife and three children came to visit his father-in-law's house on Thursday.

Mariam along with Salma and Labony and two other minor children went to the canal around 12pm for taking bath. At one stage, they drowned in the canal.

Mariam's younger brother Abdullah rushed to the house and informed the family members.

Later, the family members recovered the bodies of the three around 1:30pm, said Abdul Khalek, officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station.

Body recovered from river

SHERPUR: Firefighters yesterday recovered the body of a college student who went missing yesterday while taking a dip along with his fellows in the river Dashani in the district, reports BSS.

The student was identified as Hashu Mia, 19. He was a second year student at Jamshed Ali Memorial College of the district. He drowned in Balaichar area of the river in the afternoon. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident.

One held with firearms

MYMENSINGH: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested one person with two foreign made pistols, bullet and two sharp weapons from Satghoria area in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.

The arrested person is Imtiaj Ahamed Rony, 30, a resident of  Muktakatherchar area under Naria upazila in Shariatpur district.

On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area early yesterday and arrested Rony with the arms, a RAB official said.

Different cases were pending against him with Kotwali Police Station.
