UNB

Kushtia: A woman was dragged out of her house to village arbitration while having her dinner and physically tortured inhumanly bringing an allegation of her illicit relation with her so-called uncle. Even, the arbitrators confined her to her house for four days blocking the way for her treatment for the wounds, reports UNB.

However, police finally stepped in, rescued the victim from her confinement on Friday and took her to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The shocking incident which happened at Balidapara village in Mirpur upazila on Monday caused a huge public outcry.

Lying on the hospital bed, the victim said her mother-in-law made one Subal, a resident of Sapkamra village, her god-brother three years back whereby he used to visit their house.

On Monday, an event of worship songs was arranged at their house seeking early recovery of her ailing husband. Subal among others attended the programme, she said.

When all the family members along with Subal were taking their meal in the evening after the musical event, some locals picked the housewife and Subal up to the village arbitration bringing an allegation of extramarital affairs between them.

According to the arbitrators' decision, Mahabul, Mintu and Ashraful Islam Kalu, residents of the village, beat the duo mercilessly in the presence of local union parishad member Mozammel Haque Bakul, leaving them seriously injured.

The arbitration also fined Tk 20,000 to Subal and as he failed to pay the fine, the UP member took his motorcycle under his custody. "Although I fell sick severely, I couldn't go to hospital as the villagers confined me to my house after the torture," the victim said.

Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station Rafiqul Islam said a police team, led by him, rescued the housewife and took her to hospital.
