Seminar on ‘Pluralism of Dhaka’ held at DU
Dhaka University (DU) organised a seminar titled “Pluralism of Dhaka: Religious and Cultural Variation” at the Ramesh Chandra Majumdar Auditorium on Thursday, said a press release in Dhaka on Friday.
The Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (CIID) and World Religion and Cultural Department of DU jointly organised the seminar.
DU Pro Vice-chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr M Akhtraruzzaman inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest while Dean of Arts Faculty Prof Dr Abu M Delwar Hossain was also present with CIID Director Dr Fazrin Huda in the chair. Former Director of the National Archives of Bangladesh Prof Dr Sharif Uddin Ahmed and Prof of World Religion and Cultural Department Dr Father Tapan D'Rozario also spoke, among others.
Sri Lankan professor meets DU VC
Prof Dr Rohana P M of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Thursday at the latter’s office of the university.
Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC-DU) Prof Dr Sheikh Shamimul Alam, additional directors Prof Dr Md. Rahmat Ullah and Prof Dr Mahbub Ahsan Khan were present on that occasion. During the meeting, they stressed the need for enhancement of the quality of higher education. The possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs by the University of Dhaka and Sabaragamuwa University, Sri Lanka were also discussed in the meeting.
‘Community Day’ held at Southeast University
The Department of Textile Engineering of Southeast University (SEU) organized two-day long ‘Community Day’ programme Wednesday at the Seminar Hall of the permanent Campus, Tejgaon, Dhaka, says a press release.
Prof Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean, School of Science & Engineering and Chairman, Textile Engineering Department, SEU delivered the welcome speech of the opening ceremony of ‘Community Day’. M Kamaluddin Chowdhury, representative member of Board of Trustees, SEU Trust was present as special guest while Prof Dr M Shamsher Ali, Professor Emeritus, SEU was present as guest of honor at the programme.
Voluntary blood donation campaign held at JU
A voluntarily blood donation campaign was held yesterday at the Central Shaheed Minar premises of Jahangirngar University campus here marking the National Mourning Day and the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the university unit organised the campaign while JU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated it as the chief guest.
Addressing the programme, JU VC Farzana said ‘One’s blood can safe another’s life. So, we need to encourage everyone to donate blood’. Thanking the JU BCL leaders and activists, VC said ‘Voluntary blood donation at the mourning month indisputably demands praise’. Pro VC Abul Hossain, JU BCL President Jewel Rana and Secretary SM Abu Sufian Chanchal spoke at the programme, among others.
JUSC gets new executive body
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University Career Club (JUCC) On Wednesday got a 15-member new executive committee for the next one year.
Sayedul Kabir of Marketing Department and Muhiminul Islam Taz of Management Department were made president and general secretary respectively.
Names of the new executive committee members were announced at the annual general meeting of the organisation held on the campus.
The other office bearers are: Vice-President Sayedur Rahman Omio and Plabon Ahmed Nirzon, Organising Secretary Yeasin Arafat Bapon, Joint Secretary Tanzina Khan, Treasurer Wazed Ali, Corporate Affairs Secretary Anannya Shaha, Publication Secretary Riad Hasan Shwapno, IT Secretary Rahatul Islam, Human Resource Secretary Nishat Nuzhat Sharaf and Learning Development Secretary Hadi Siam.
Associate Professor of JU Geography and Environment Department Mehidi Iqbal, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Department Fakrul Islam and Lecturer of Pharmacy Department Mnwarul Haq Mandal were present at the meeting, among others. JUCC is working to raise awareness about career development among the students by organising different types of seminar, workshop and training programme. The organisation was established in 20014.
IU students to get results through online
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The honors and masters's results of Islamic University (IU) are going to online system from Monday.
According to the system, the students of the university will get their results, provisional certificates and transcripts from anywhere of Bangladesh by online after logging into the website-www.iu.ac.bd through academic information.
IU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the 'Online Result Process & Publication System' (ORPS) software at a ceremony held at VC office on Monday afternoon.
Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha, Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif, Proctor Professor Dr M Mahbubar Rahman, Controller of Examination Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present on the inaugural ceremony.
View-exchange meeting held
COMILLA: Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury yesterday urged the teachers to impart proper education to the students alongside equipping themselves with humanitarian qualities.
“Students should be given proper education. Otherwise they will be derailed from the right path," he told a view-exchange meeting with teachers of Bijoy Kora School and College at Chauddogram upazila in the district.He urged the teachers to maintain a database in their respective educational institutions to monitor the activities of the students to help them fight shy of bad companions.
“Teachers and guardians should remain alert to refrain their children from misusing modern information technology, including social media,” he added.
Additional Secretary of Education Ministry Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury and Deputy Commission of Comilla Md Jahangir Alam were present on the occasion, among others.
