Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday sought Japanese assistances in making affordable Pajero sports car and Mitsubishi pick-up for the people of the country, reports BSS.
The minister made the request while new Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Masato Watanabe paid a courtesy call on him at the ministry office. He told the ambassador that the government, at present, is putting emphasis on manufacturing car in the country, although the state-owned Pragati Industries has been assembling car with Japanese assistance.
Industries Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, additional secretary Begum Parag, BCIC Chairman Mohammad Iqbal, and Japan embassy officials were present at the meeting.
Urging Japan to shift its high-tech industries to Bangladesh, the minister said there is an opportunity to transfer the factory of Sony Corporation in Bangladesh.
Amu also sought Japanese technical assistance in replacing the Ghorashal Urea Fertilizer Factory Limited and Palash Fertilizer Factory Limited and making those energy efficient factories.
