Man to die for killing wife

A court in Thakurgaon sentenced a man to death yesterday for killing his wife in 2011.
Convict Enamul Haque, 52 has also been fined Tk 10,000, according to the verdict.
Enamul was present in court when the verdict was announced by the Thakurgaon Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court.
On April 20, 2011, Enamul murdered his wife Salma Begum and buried her, said public prosecutor
Abdul Hamid. The body was found five days later. At that time, the man used to live at a house of his father-in-law Hamid Baksha in Pirganj upazila of the district.
Salma’s brother, Safir Uddin filed a murder case against Enamul with Pirganj police station. Police later arrested Enamul, who confessed to the crime.
Mother, daughter killed in Bogra road accident

A woman and her daughter were killed in a road accident in Mail Bus stand area under Dhupchachia upazila of Bogra district yesterday.
The deceased were Jasmin, 27, wife of Saju, a resident of Santahar-Kashsilpa village in Adamdighi upazila of the district and their eight-year-old daughter Sumaiya.

Jasmin dead on the spot and her husband and daughter injured. Injured Saju and Sumaiya were sent to Dhupchachia upazila health complex where duty doctors declared Sumaiya dead.
499 drug peddlers arrested in seven months
Magura: Police have arrested 499 drug peddlers in special drives in different places under four upazilas in the last seven months, reports UNB.
Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Magura police, said the district administration and district police have taken joint efforts to make the district free from
drugs.
Under the initiatives, police and mobile court seized 1.68 kg of heroin, 6,198 pieces of yaba tablets, 52.45 kg of cannabis, 403 bottles of phensidyls and 87 litres of liquor in the last seven months and filed 392 cases in these connections. However, the local administration has rehabilitated 200 drug addict youths by providing rickshaw, rickshaw-van, goats, cows and food items, he added.
Century old Nawapara School in Jessore nationalised
Jessore: Nearly a century old Nawapara Shankarpasha Secondary School has been nationalized, reports UNB.
The government’s order in this regard reached the school on August 23, said assistant teacher Sunil Das on Thursday.
Shahidul Islam, headmaster of the school, said that a joyful atmosphere is prevailing on the campus after receiving the government’s official order on nationalisation. Established in 1927 in the heart of Nawapara industrial town, the school has become a famous institution in the area for the quality of teachers and teaching, said educationist and a resident of the area Professor Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Gaffar.
