Two Late strikes from Ezeodoka Simon helped Brothers Union remain in the top-three race when they blanked Soccer Club Feni 2-0 in the Mnayavar Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday.
Brothers brought their tally to 35 points from 19 matches to close the gap with Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra, who are on second place with 38 points. Brothers have one match left to play while Russell have two matches n hand.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited, both the sides obtained 34 points from 18 matches when they will face each others on August 16. Before that the former will play Rahmatganj today and the latter will face the league champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on August 20.
Brothers’ Nigerian forward Ezeodeka Simon scored both the goals after a barren first half to steer team to earn a valuable win.
Both the sides, after an impressive first half show looked serious and played with good paces. Brothers were better in ball possessions and also in attack than the Soccer Club.
The All Orange, who looked to be a disorganised and were under a bit pressure when they about to concede goal in the first half as Soccer’s Saddam closely took an attempt.
Brothers, who disappointed with their poor display in the first half, came out in the second half with dominating most of the time and also threatened with some strong scoring attempts but Augustin Walson, Simon and substitute Rajon Meah missed the targets.
Brothers kept their pressure and Simon broke the deadlock on 76th minute but that was not enough to ensure the victory as Soccer Feni came close to equalise the margin just four minutes later.
But the mighty Gopibagh outfit sealed the victory when the Nigerian striker slammed home the second in the first minute of three minutes injury period with same fashion of a long range right footer from outside the box (2-0).
