Last year runner-up WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin took a solo lead in the WALTON 37th National Women’s Chess Championship-2017. She earned maximum 5 points after the end of 5th round games at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall room yesterday.
In 5th round Shirin beat reigning women champion WFM Nazrana Khan Eva. Shirin played with white pieces with exchange variation of Queen’s Gambit Declined game. In 35th move Eva made a blunder and Shirin took the charge and won at 36th moves.
Kazi Zarin Tasnim of Elegant International Chess Academy drew with WIM Rani Hamid. Zarin played with white pieces against Sicilian Defense of Rani Hamid and the game continued to Kan Variation. In 15th move Rani Hamid blundered her Knight and Zarin got a very good chance but Zarin can’t win the game which finally drew at 85th moves.
Eight players are now sharing 2nd position with 4 points each. They are: Shamima Akter Liza, Rani Hamid, Nazrana Khan Eva, Tanima Parveen, Zakia Sultana, Tanzina Akter Tani, Aahelee Sarkar and Zahuratul Zannat Zisha.
In 5th round: Liza beat Jhorna Begum, Tanima beat Tahmina Akter Tisha, Zakia beat Jannatul Ferdous, Jahanara Haque drew with Afroin Jahan Munia, Tani beat Farjana Hossain Annie, Aahelee beat Noshin Anjum and Zisha beat Kiswara Shajrin Evana.
