Woman held with 7,000 yaba pills
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a woman along with 7,000 pieces of yaba tablets at Mougachhi village in Rajshahi on Wednesday night.
The detainee was identified as Sharmin Akter, 40, daughter of Selim Hossian of Chamta village in the upazila and wife of Shah Alam.
Tipped-off that a consignment of yaba tablets was being smuggled, a RAB-5 team led by Major AM Ashraful Islam conducted a drive in Mougachhi Bridge area around 8pm, said a press release.
During the drive, the RAB personnel arrested the woman from the spot and confiscated the consignment of 7,000 contraband pills, a mobile phone set and a SIM card from her.
Driver killed in road accident
A rickshaw van driver was killed as a speeding truck hit the van in Shahjalal International Airport area in the capital early Thursday.
The identity of the deceased - aged around 60 - could not be known immediately.
Quoting pedestrians Robi and Nur Islam, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Camp sub-inspector Bachchu Mia said a good-laden truck hit a rickshaw van in front of the customs gate of the airport in the early morning, leaving the van driver critically injured.
Pedestrians took him to DMCH where duty doctor declared him dead at 7:15 am.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
6 muggers arrested in capital
Police arrested six alleged muggers from Kawran Bazar and Gulshan areas of the capital on Tuesday.
Several sharp weapons and a private car were recovered from their possessions.
The arrestees were identified as Abu Saleh Musa alias Taher, Shafique, Tariqul, Md Jaglul Haider, Abdullah and Ripon.
Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said a patrol team of Tejgaon police station arrested Taher, Shafique, Tariqul from Katpatti area of Kawran Bazar at around 7:15 pm, while another team of Gulshan police station arrested Jaglul Haider, Abdullah and Ripon from a private car from in front of Checkpost-9 around 5:10 pm.
Doa Mahfil for Orion Group chairman’s mother
Rabeya Khatun, mother of the chairman of Orion Group Mohammad Obaidul Karim, passed away at the Apollo Hospital in the capital on Aug 18, a press release.
Her family members humbly requested all to take part at a Doa Mahfil at Gulshan Society Jame Masjid in the capital after Asr prayer today.
