Teachers demand immediate arrest of Barguna gang-rape accused

Leaders of Bangladesh Government Primary School Headmasters' Association on Thursday demanded immediate arrest of the accused in a case over gang-rape of a schoolteacher in front of her husband at her school in Barguna's Betagi upazila on August 17, reports UNB.

Rejecting the medical report of the rape victim they also demanded action against the people who are protecting the perpetrators and influencing the administration.

They placed their demands at a human chain organised by Bangladesh Government Primary School Headmasters' Association and some other teachers' organisations in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Association President Reaj Parveg announced that primary teachers will wear black badges while taking class in the classrooms protesting the incident on August 26, 27 and 28.

The leaders of the teachers' associations threatened to go for tougher movement after Eid-ul-Azha if the government fails to arrest and take immediate actions against the accused by August 30.

They also submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister after the human chain.

The primary teachers across the country formed human chains protesting this incident at the same time.

Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers' Association general secretary Sabera Begum said they sought security from the government as they are feeling insecured by this kind of incident.

Bangladesh Government Primary School Headmasters' Association General secretary Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers' Society president Tapan Mandal and general secretary HBM Asaduzzaman among others spoke.

The assistant teacher of a primary school was allegedly "gang raped" in a classroom of her school and the victim filed a case with Betagi police station accusing six people.

The accused are Sumon Biswas, 35, son of Md Hiron Biswas , Md Rasel, 28, son of Abdul Barek Mia, Sumon Kazi, 30, son of Abdul Kuddus, Md Rabiul, 18, son of Abdur Rahman, Md Jewel, 30, son of Md Abdur Rahamn of Kodomtola village in Hosnabad union of Betagi upazila.

According to the case statement, when the teacher was talking to her husband in a classroom of the school after completion of classes the accused tried to enter the school.
