The High Court yesterday issued a rule asking government to explain within four weeks why two sections of Representation of the People Order and a rule of Political Party Registration Rule that imposed some conditions for opening new political party, should not be declared illegal.
In response to a writ petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Faruque asked law secretary, Election Commission and its secretary to reply to the rule.
Former minister and Bangladesh National Alliance chairman Nazmul Huda filed the writ petition challenging the legality of sections 90 B and 12 (3) (a) of Representation of the People Order and rule 6 (j) of Political Party Registration Rule, which imposed some conditions for the registration of new political party.
