The outgoing Head of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon yesterday expressed EU’s willingness to send Election Observer Mission for the next general election in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
Expressing optimism that the next general election would be free, fair and inclusive, he said, “The European Union is ready to sending Election Observer Mission for that election”.
Mayaudon said this when he paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam at the latter’s office this afternoon, a foreign ministry statement said. State Minister thanked the departing EU Ambassador for his positive and constructive role in taking the Bangladesh-EU relations to a newer height during his tenure in Dhaka.
He appreciated the EU Ambassador’s efforts to reach out to the civil society, business, academia beyond its comprehensive engagements with the government, which, in his view is contributing positively in further strengthening and widening the friendly relationship.
He also appreciated EU’s unwavering support towards LDC agenda and Bangladesh being the current Chair of LDC will remain engaged with EU to further solidify the existing cooperation.
Mentioning EU as one of the most important development partners and the key export destinations for Bangladeshi products, he emphasised on continued strengthening of bilateral relations. The EU ambassador said his tenure in Bangladesh was ‘fulfilling three years’ and shared that now Bangladesh and EU are engaged in all possible areas like migration, labour issues, trade and investment, science and technology etc.
He added that EU-Bangladesh Business Climate Dialogue that was commenced in 2015 is moving in the right direction and discussion on many important issues to augment more two-way trade and investment will continue.
The EU ambassador further hoped that Bangladesh would continue its success in all areas of economic, social and political landscapes.
The EU Ambassador thanked the state minister for extending all-out support and cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh and reiterated EU’s commitment to remain engaged with Bangladesh.
