Accusing BNP of trying to create a ground for another 1/11 by making provocative remarks on Supreme Court’s 16th amendment verdict, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday warned that such move will only turn futile, reports UNB.
“BNP is the instigator of the toxic situation that has created here now over the Supreme Court verdict. They’ve thought they would create another 1/11 by destabilising the country, but it won’t happen again on Bangladesh soil,” he said.
Pointing at his BNP counterpart, the AL general secretary said, “Mr Fakhrul Delhi is still far away. Your daydreams will diminish very soon as like a hollow balloon.”
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, came up with the comments while speaking at a discussion arranged by Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu-Kishore Parishad at the Jatiya Krira Parishad auditorium, marking the National Mourning Day.
He said BNP leaders are making provocative comments over the Supreme Court verdict as they think the government may have no way-out. “They may feel that their victory is imminent, and the peacock throne is waiting for them.”
The minister said BNP had got the same thoughts after the Plikhana tragedy, but their impractical dream was not implemented, nor will it be now.
He criticised BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed for warning the government and the ruling party of paying a heavy price, saying it is BNP, not Awami League, which will have to pay price. “You won’t be able to fish in the troubled waters and return to power by making provocative comments.”
The AL general secretary warned BNP that the venomous snake with which it has started playing will not spare the party from its bite.
Quader said BNP is conspiring against the government both at home and abroad as people are not with the party.
