One to die for killing wives in Rangpur

RANGPUR: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for murdering his two wives in village Ruposhi Gachhua under Mithapukur upazila in the district in 2014, reports BSS.

District and Sessions Judge of Rangpur Humayun Kabir handed down the verdict in presence of the convict. The convict is Elias Ali, son of Amjad Hossain of the same village.

According to prosecution, Elias Ali chopped his second wife Maksuda Begum with an axe while she was sleeping at her bedroom to death on July 18, 2014. Noticing the killing of Maksuda, first wife Momena Begum started shouting while trying to flee from the house when Elias caught her and chopped to death too.

Local villagers caught Elias Ali and informed Mithapukur Thana police when police rushed there, arrested Elias Ali, recovered the bodies and sent those to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Sub-inspector Nazrul Islam filed a murder case in this connection accusing arrested Elias Ali with Mithapukur Thana on the next day.

After investigation into the case, Investigation Officer Sub-inspector of Mithapukur Thana Ershad Ali submitted charge sheet against the only accused person to the court on December 18 in 2014 when the trial began.
