The High Court yesterday summoned the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhatara police station in the capital for not returning the car of a businessman even after a month of its seizure.
The HC bench asked the OC to appear before the bench along with the seized car at 10:30 am on August 24 (today).
In response to a writ petition filed by the businessman, the HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-aul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah also issued a rule asking the authorities why the seizure of the businessman’s car should not be declared illegal.
Inspector general of police (IGP), deputy commissioner of Dhaka, SP and OC of the Bhatara police station have been made respondents to reply to the rule.
According to the report, the car of businessman of city’s Kuril Md Momin Uddin was seized by the Bhatara police from the area on July 13. Later, Momin Uddin provided document of his ownership and other documents in this regard.
But the OC did not return his car even after passing of one month since the incident.
The businessman filed the writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive over the issue. After hearing on the petition, the HC bench came up with the order and rule.
Barrister Belayet Hossain moved for the businessman in the court.
