Teen rapist held with parents
Bogra: A minor girl was raped by a teenager at Kadai Purbapara village in Dhunat upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB. Police arrested the rapist, along with his father and mother in this connection. Police said quoting locals Abu Naem, 14, son of Lutfor Rahman of the village allegedly raped a fiveyears old girl of an expatriate of the same village. Listening the scream of the girl the neighbors rescued her in bloody 12condition and admitted to Shahed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital. Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station said OTBEPolice also visited the spot and arrested the rapist Naem, from a relatives house at Heutnagar village of the upazila and his father Lutfor Rahman, 42 and mother Anjuwara Khatun, 35 from the village for destroy the prove of rape. The mother of the girl filed a case against the trio in this connection.
18 Bangladeshis held at Benapole border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 18 Bangladeshi nationals, including three children, from Gatipara area here on Saturday while they were illegally entering the country from India. The arrestees—Lily Khatun, Sathi, Bihari, Tahmina, Keya, Sharmin, Ayesha, Hanif, Mukta, Faridul, Achena, Irani, Balina, Tarek, Jahid, Hobi, Jyoti and Riyad—hail from different parts of Narail, Khulna, Pirojpur, Natore and Naogaon districts.
Tipped off, a team of the border guard conducted a drive in the area and detained them while they were trying to enter Bangladesh from neighbouring India around 5:30 pm without valid documents, said commanding officer of BGB-49, Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Haque. Later, they were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he added.
‘Drug peddler’ held with yaba

Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in a drive, arrested a drug peddler with 11,800 pieces of banned yaba tablets and 100 grams of heroin from Arambag area in the town on Saturday evening. The arrested was identified as Hossain Ali, 40, a resident of the same area. On a tip-off, a team of the DNC conducted a raid at the house of Hossain Ali in the area and arrested him with the drugs worth about Tk over 25 lakh, said Alamgir Hossain, assistant director of the department. Later, he was handed over to the concerned police station.
Stress on grooming up children as worthy citizens
Gaibandha: Speakers in a function here recently underscored the need for grooming up children as worthy citizens of the country to lead the nation ahead in future, reports BSS. “The children will have to be patriotic from boyhood and take a vow to work for making a corruption free country to brighten Bangladesh’s image at home and abroad side by side with building a poverty and hunger free nation,” they said. They made the comments while addressing a view exchange meeting between responsible persons and children on children’s rights in the conference room of the District Collectorate building here on Wednesday afternoon.
National Children’s Task Force (NCTF), Gaibandha arranged the function in cooperation with the district administration, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Gaibandha, Youth Forum, Plan International and Save the Children.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the meeting as the chief guest while superintendent of police M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were the special guests.
Additional District Magistrate Rokhsana Begum, District Child Affairs Officer M. Mosarrof Hossain Prodhan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Alia Ferdous Zahan, journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, president of district NCTF Jannatul Mawa Soma, General Secretary Mashiur Rahman Musa and district volunteer M. Tauhid Tushar spoke at the meeting, among others.
