EC to invite 6 more political parties to join dialogue

The Election Commission is likely to invite six more political parties to join its dialogue on September 10, 12 and 14 next, reports UNB.

As part of the EC’s move to sit with all the 40 registered political parties from August 24 next, the Commission earlier invited six political parties to join dialogue on August 24, 28 and 30 next.

“The Election Commission has so far finalised dialogue schedules for 12 parties. Separate dialogues with two parties will be held on one day,” said EC acting secretary Helaluddin Ahmed yesterday.

The first dialogue will be held at 11am, while the second one at 3pm every day, he told the news agency.

“Of the 12 parties, invitation letters to six parties were sent a week back, while invitation letters to the remaining six parties will be sent on Monday,” said Director (PR) at EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman.

The dialogue with first six parties will be held before Eid-ul Azha, while that of the remaining parties from September 10, he said.

As per the schedule, the dialogue with BNF and Sangskritik Muktijot will be held on August 24, while Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) and Khelafat Majlish on August 28, and Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party and Jagpa on August 30.

The EC will sit in dialogue with Bangladesh Islami Front and Islami Andolan Bangladesh on September 10, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Islami Oikya Jote on September 12, and Bangladesh Kalyan Party and Islamic Front Bangladesh on September 14.

Earlier, the Commission held talks with civil society members on July 31, media representatives on August 16 and 16 as part of taking opinions of its different stakeholders over the preparation of the 11th national election likely to be held in late December 2018.

The Commission will also sit with election observers, women leaders and election experts.
