Country’s two leading female chess players WIM Rani Hamid and WIM Shamima Akhtar Liza won their respective first round games in the Walton 37th National Women’s Chess Championship at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall room in the capital yesterday.
In all 32 players won in the first round.
F M Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), Operative Director and Head of Sports & Welfare of Walton Group, inaugurated the event as chief guest.
67 players from Dhaka city and other 21 districts including WIM Rani Hamid, WIM Shamima Akter Liza, reigning women champion WFM Nazrana Khan Eva, WFM Tanima Parveen of Chittagong, runner-up WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin, WFM Zakia Sultana and WFM Afroza Khanam Bably.
