Zahid Hossain scored one goal and set another one for Towhidul Alam Sabuj as Chittagong Abahani Limited kept their winning streak in five matches in a row in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football defeating Rahmatganj by 2-0 yesterday.
Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Sabuj put Chittagong Abahani into lead a minute before the break and Zahid Hossain doubled it midway of second half.
In the last season after suffering two defeats in the second leg, Chittagong Abahani derailed from the title race, this season they are very exciting mood with winning five matches in a row.
On the day Chittagong Abahani looked a bit cautious at the initial stage against the Old Dhaka outfit to whom they suffered first defeat in the last season and made their first run on 19th minute but Towhidul Alam Sabuj’s attempt with a drooping header narrowly missed the cross piece from goal-mouth melee.
However, Rahmatganj, the great threats for all, were very closer to stun the Port City giants when a Saddam Hossain Anny set piece from outside the box was saved by goalkeeper Ashraful Rana at the last moment on 24th minute.
Rahmatganj again opened scoring space on 40th minute when a robust counter attack just ransacked he CTG Abahani’s defense but the forwards lost temper and failed to make it a good finish. The Sky-Blue from Chittagong eventually took the lead on 44th minute when Towhidul Alam Sabuj struck his fifth goal in style in the five matches in a row when a moment of brilliance of the local hero break the deadlock with a superb perfection on a running ball off a Zahid right side cross (1-0).
In the second half both sides pressed for openings following CTG Abahani leading with 1-0 the first half and also took a firm control but took 26 minutes after the break to double the advantage.
Zahid, who looked on pick on the day and engineered almost all the danger moves, the national team winger broke down the right and drilled a crisp low shot but Rahmatganj defender Sajib handled the ball inside the area and referee did not miss to call for penalty.
Zahid powered a right footer to convert the penalty on 71st minute to seal the fifth victory for Chittagong Abahani Limited (2-0).
